PRECOP

a two-day climate conference preceding COP 29 in w Azerbaijan

PRECOP – a debate on climate preceding COP 29

A third edition of the largest climate conference in Central Europe, PRECOP will prepare its audience for the upcoming COP 29 (UN Climate Change Conference, i.e. a session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change).

PRECOP will be held on 2-3 October, 2024, in the International Congress Centre in Katowice.

This two-day cyclical event, organized by the PTWP Group and UN Global Compact Network Poland, aims to analyse the findings of last year's climate summit (COP 28) and discuss key anticipated areas of debate at the upcoming climate conference in Azerbaijan (COP 29, November 11-22, 2024, Baku).

COP 29 is the next installment of the world's largest forum aimed at developing common policies on combating climate change.

Previous editions of PRECOP attracted 1300 off-line and 2,500 on-line participants. More than 30 sessions were attended by senior representatives of UN and European Union agencies, ambassadors and politicians, including former COP presidents, as well as business people, scientists, and academics.

The conclusions of previous editions of PRECOP were compiled in a “White Paper” and presented at COP 27 in Sharm El Sheikh and COP 28 in Dubai.

This year, PRECOP will offer an opportunity to hear from global experts from international UN agencies, Polish and foreign politicians, scientists and academics, representatives of responsible business – managers, business owners, investors – as well as experts in the field of combating climate change, and representatives of NGOs.

Among the subjects addressed at the conference in Katowice, referring to the theme of last year's climate summit in Dubai, will be the issues of progress towards achieving climate goals in line with the Paris Agreement and the need to agree on global goals for energy transition and increase its financing.

The PRECOP agenda will include matters related to climate disaster mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Economic models and examples of businesses implementing the idea of circular economy will be equally high on the agenda.

Another important subject of the debate will be ecosystem services and the impact of natural capital on business operations.

PRECOP will serve as an opportunity to bring to the fore subjects related to farming, the reduction of CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain, urban development and local politicians supporting the fight against climate change.

Primary points of COP 29 will be reflected in the conference in Katowice; these include the financing of transition, commitments made by countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of climate change mitigation (NDC), and the implementation of the findings of COP 28.
