From 2013 to the end of 2019, Dr Jerzy Plewa served as Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), having previously served as Deputy Director-General from 2006 to 2013. From 1997 to 2004, he was Poland’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, with responsibilities including Poland’s EU accession negotiations in the field of agriculture, preparations for the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), and multilateral and bilateral trade negotiations. Earlier in his career, he was a researcher and Assistant Professor at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) from 1982 to 1997. He has also worked as an expert for the FAO and the World Bank and served as an adviser to the President of the National Bank of Poland from 2004 to 2006. Since 2020, as a Team Europe expert, he has focused on the Common Agricultural Policy, sustainable agriculture, the European Green Deal, bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations, and science, research and innovation in agriculture.
