Wojciech Hanke's scientific interests concern the negative impact of the environment, including on the health of pregnant women and their children.  As National Consultant to the Minister of Health in the field of Environmental Health (2015-2020), he was involved in disseminating knowledge about air quality and its impact on health. He also provided the government with health-related arguments for good legislation to reduce smog episodes and long-term exposure. He has been a member of the Public Health Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences for many terms. In February 2023, he was elected chairman for the current term. He is the Chairman of the Team for the Impact of Air Pollution on Health at the National Health Program Council.
